Predicting Normal People’s Reaction Time based on Hippocampal Local Efficiency During a Memory-Guided Attention Task
نویسندگان
چکیده مقاله:
Background: There are some convincing shreds of evidence indicating that memory can direct attention. The local efficiency of an area in the brain, as a quantitative feature in a complex network, indicates how the surrounding nodes can transfer the information when a specific node is omitted. This feature is a scale for measuring efficient integration of information in the brain. Objectives: The purpose of the present study is to predict the reaction time using the local efficiency variable while doing memory-guided attention task. Materials and Methods: The fMRI database of a research done in New York University during a visual search task was used for this study. Thirty-five right-handed healthy participants (51% female, mean age= 21.7 years) were recruited at New York University. SPM was used for pre-processing fMRI images, and CONN was used for calculating the values of local efficiency. SPSS was also used for statistical analysis of the study. Results: Results of the study revealed that local efficiency of the right hippocampus can positively predict the reaction time during memory-guided attention tasks. Conclusion: The findings of the study demonstrated that the hippocampus area has a significant role in the performance of memory-guided attention, and this significant role of the hippocampus reveals that long-term memory uses the hippocampus and affects the movement and attention of eyes on the target.

Time Course of Attention during a Volleyball Jumping-Serve Using a Dual-Task Paradigm
In the present investigation we determined the time course of attention demands during the jumping service in volleyball by the dual-task paradigm. Fourteen voluntary junior elite volleyball players performed 60 jumping serve. Jumping-serve performance (JSP) as primary task and verbal reaction time (RT) to an auditory stimulus that was administered in four probe positions (PP), as secondary tas...
متن کاملPredicting the human reaction time based on natural image statistics in a rapid categorization task
The human visual system is developed by viewing natural scenes. In controlled experiments, natural stimuli therefore provide a realistic framework with which to study the underlying information processing steps involved in human vision. Studying the properties of natural images and their effects on the visual processing can help us to understand underlying mechanisms of visual system. In this s...
متن کاملInhibition of visual discrimination during a memory-guided saccade task.
Voluntary behavior critically depends on attentional selection and short-term maintenance of perceptual information. Recent research suggests a tight coupling of both cognitive functions with visual processing being selectively enhanced by working memory representations. Here, we combined a memory-guided saccade paradigm (6-s delay) with a visual discrimination task, performed either 1,500, 2,5...

Memory-guided attention during active viewing of edited dynamic scenes.
Films, TV shows, and other edited dynamic scenes contain many cuts, which are abrupt transitions from one video shot to the next. Cuts occur within or between scenes, and often join together visually and semantically related shots. Here, we tested to which degree memory for the visual features of the precut shot facilitates shifting attention to the postcut shot. We manipulated visual similarit...
متن کاملTelepresence and Attention: Secondary Task Reaction Time and Media Form
Attention to media has been widely studied. Often when studying attention, researchers have not distinguished to what the participants are attending – media form or media content of the presentation. This is also true of many studies on telepresence where the interaction of media form and content has been found to influence the sub-dimensions of telepresence reported by participants. However, s...
